Instructions

  • Soak toor dal, moong dal, chana dal, and rice in water for 2 hours.
  • Drain and use some of the drained water to grind the dals and rice into a smooth paste with asafoetida, salt, and dried red chillies.
  • Fill idli plates with the batter and steam for 15 minutes. Let them cool completely before removing and dicing into small pieces.
  • Heat peanut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and urad dal, letting them splutter.
  • Add chopped ginger, curry leaves, green chillies, and onions. Sauté until the onions soften.
  • Add the diced lentil idlis and toss well with salt.
  • Mix in fresh shredded coconut and coat the pieces evenly.
  • Remove from heat and serve hot.

  1. Ensure the lentil idlis are completely cooled before dicing to maintain their structure.
  1. Adjust the spiciness to taste by varying the quantity of green chillies.
