Instructions

  • Mix tamarind pulp water, ground masala paste, salt, chopped small onions, tomatoes, and green chillies in a bowl. Add 2 cups of water and stir well.
  • Heat sesame oil in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, chopped onions, and curry leaves. Fry until the fenugreek seeds crackle and the small onions are browned.
  • Pour in the tamarind masala water base, cover, and bring to a boil. Let it simmer until the raw smell disappears and the green chillies change color.
  • Add the cleaned fish pieces and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes, occasionally rotating the vessel to ensure the gravy coats all the fish pieces.
  • Dilute the coconut paste with water and pour it into the curry. Stir gently, then lower the flame and cook for another 4-5 minutes until the oil separates and floats on top.
  • Remove from heat and serve hot with rice, idli, dosa, appam, or chapathi.

Notes

  1. Avoid stirring the fish too much, as it may break apart.
  1. Rotate the vessel to coat the fish evenly with the gravy.
  1. Adjust salt and spices to taste before serving.
