Instructions

  • Soak rice and Toor Dal in water for at least 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat oil in the Instant Pot on sauté mode. Once hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, letting them crackle.
  • Add shallots, curry leaves, and garlic. Sauté until the shallots turn golden.
  • Mix in the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and asafoetida. Sauté until the raw smell dissipates.
  • Add the drained rice and Toor Dal, stirring well to combine.
  • Pour in the water and add salt to taste. Close the lid and set the Instant Pot to the rice cooking setting.
  • Once the cooking cycle is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally. Serve the Arisimparuppu warm, drizzled with a teaspoon of ghee.
